The 2019 rules list visiting on Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday and federal holidays. People passing through ("holdover") at a prison that does not fit their security needs may visit Thursdays, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The rules list "Low," "Medium" and "USP" rows; they do not say which of today's three Yazoo City prisons each row is, so ask your loved one's counselor which applies. The BOP's own papers disagree. The Yazoo City handbook is from October 2011 and the visiting rules are from February 18, 2019. They differ: the handbook says 4 adults and 4 dependent children, and each visit costs 1 point of the 5 a month; the 2019 rules say no more than 5 people in total, with points taken only for weekend visits (none for Friday evenings or holidays). The handbook says holding hands is allowed during the visit; the rules only allow shaking hands, kissing and embracing at the start and the end. Both papers are old. Go by the 2019 rules, and call 662-716-1241 (the number in the BOP facility feed) before you drive.

How to get on the visiting list
- Your loved one asks their counselor for a visiting list. The list holds at most 25 visitors aged 16 or older. It should be turned in within the first two weeks at the prison.
- The counselor gives them a Visitor Information Form (BP-629) and a notice of the visiting rules for each person, immediate family included. They send these to you.
- You fill out the form and mail it back to the counselor. The prison does not accept completed forms handed in by your loved one.
- The Unit Team approves or denies each person, ordinarily within 30 days. The counselor tells your loved one in writing. They tell you. Do not drive until you are approved. People with felony convictions can only be approved by the Warden or someone the Warden picks.
- They can change the list once every 90 days.
- Transferred from another prison, or passing through? Approval of people already on the list is ordinarily not needed. Anyone without an approved list can add only immediate family.

Books and magazines: at a medium security prison, books and magazines must come straight from a publisher, book club or bookstore (Amazon, for example), never from home.
How to send money to an inmate here
Money never goes to Yazoo City Medium. It goes to the BOP, and the BOP puts it on their account. There are 3 ways. Each one below shows you the actual form and exactly what to write in each box, already filled in with their name and number.
First, they must sign the power-of-attorney form (BP-A0407) when they arrive. Until they do, MoneyGram and Western Union money cannot post. Click here to read the source: Program Statement 4500.13, Trust Fund/Deposit Fund Manual (May 7, 2026) ↗
1. Postal money order Our pick
"Postal" means the U.S. Post Office. A postal money order is one you buy at the counter of a U.S. Post Office, from the United States Postal Service. Money orders sold at Walmart, a grocery store, a bank, Western Union, MoneyGram or a check-cashing store are not postal money orders.
Why it matters: a postal money order has no hold. Once the BOP's lockbox in Des Moines gets it, it goes on their account. Every other money order and every personal or company check is put on a 15-day hold first, and the 15 days only start when the lockbox receives the envelope. Add the days it spends in the mail, and it can be close to three weeks before they can spend it.Click here to read the source: BOP, Sending money by U.S. mail ↗ Click here to read the source: FCC Yazoo City Admission and Orientation Handbook (last revised October 2011) ↗ Foreign money orders and checks are held 45 days. The postal money order is also the cheapest way.
The Post Office's own steps
- Decide the amount. Up to $1,000 in one money order.
- Go to any Post Office.
- Bring cash or a debit card. The Post Office does not take credit cards for money orders.

Unconfirmed: some stores have the blue Quick Collect form, some a "Pay a Bill" section, and some a phone to an agent.
Doing it online (Send2Corrections), screen by screen
You need a photo ID to set up the account: your name must match your ID exactly.
- Go to send2corrections.com or the Send2Corrections app. Log in or register.
- "Who are you sending to?" Choose the facility Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP DC).
- Receiver first name, middle name (optional), last name: exactly as the BOP has it.
- Commissary number: type only the 8 digits,
12345678. No dash, no name. The site adds the last name itself and shows the full account number in a grey box you cannot type in. - Ignore the pop-up that says "BOP number will not work." That text shows for every prison. The register number is what works.
- Amount: $1 to $300. Pay by card, or choose "Pay Cash (in-store)" and pay at a Western Union counter within 12 hours, or it cancels.
Hyphenated last name? The site drops the hyphen: Smith-Jones becomes 12345678SMITHJONES.
Money sent to the wrong person is not returned by Western Union. Western Union payments cannot be changed after they are sent.
Commissary: what they can spend
The Yazoo City handbook (October 2011) says the monthly spending limit is $290.00; postage stamps do not count against it. National BOP policy (PS 4500.13, May 7, 2026) raised the monthly limit from $360 to $460, plus $50 more in November and December. The handbook is very old and has not caught up. If they refuse to pay court fines on the payment plan ("FRP refuse"), their limit is $25.00 a month. How shopping works at Yazoo City Medium
- They shop once a week on their assigned day. Shopping days rotate every quarter and the schedule is posted at the commissary. (Handbook, 2011.)
- They need a completed shopping list and their inmate account card. No-shows cannot shop until the following week. (Handbook, 2011.)
- All sales are final once they leave the window. (Handbook, 2011.)
- The BOP page for this prison does not link a commissary price list, so there is no price list on this page.
The price list: Yazoo City Medium's official list is a scan or an older layout we could not turn into a reliable searchable list, so we don't retype prices we can't be sure of. Ask your loved one for the current list, or see the prison's page on bop.gov.

These are deaths the BOP announced in a press release. The BOP does not publish a full count of deaths at each prison, so this is not a total. Two older BOP releases (May 2020 and May 2021) name "USP Yazoo City." We could not confirm from a BOP document that they are about this prison, so they are not listed.
Sexual abuse audit (PREA)
The last federal sexual-abuse (PREA) audit covered the whole Yazoo City complex (not just this prison). It visited February 24 to 26, 2026 (final report April 2, 2026). Result: 45 standards met, none exceeded, none not met. In the 12 months before the audit, the whole complex recorded 18 sexual-abuse allegations (17 against other inmates, 1 against staff) and 0 sexual-harassment allegations. The audit does not split these by prison. Click here to read the source: PREA audit report, FCC Yazoo City, the whole complex (onsite February 24 to 26, 2026; final report April 2, 2026) ↗
An allegation is a report, not a finding. The audit counts reports made, not what investigators concluded.
