The BOP's own papers disagree. The visiting rules are from March 1, 2022 and the handbook from September 2021. Both are old and they differ. The handbook says visiting is by points: 40 on the 1st of each month, 2 points an hour on weekends and holidays and 1 an hour on weekdays. The newer rules do not mention points. The handbook counts children over 2 as visitors and lets 3 children under 2 come in extra; the rules let 3 children under 10 come in extra if they do not take a seat. The handbook says dresses must reach the middle of the kneecap; the rules say no shorter than two inches above mid-knee, and the rules' own one-page summary says not above the bend of the knee. Call the prison at 760-246-2400 before you drive.
The rules at the door: ID, points, what you can bring
- How many people
- No more than 4 approved visitors at a time. Up to three children under 10 can be added if they do not take a seat. A child who takes a seat counts as an adult. Children under 16 must come with a responsible adult. Children may sit in a visitor's lap but not on the floor. Click here to read the source: VIX 5267.09, Visiting Regulations, Victorville complex (March 1, 2022) ↗
- How many visits
- The handbook says each person gets 40 points on the 1st of each month. Visits cost 2 points an hour (or any part of an hour) on weekends and holidays, and 1 point an hour on weekdays. Unused points do not carry over. The newer rules do not mention points. Click here to read the source: FCC Victorville Inmate Handbook (updated September 2021) ↗
- ID
- Everyone needs a valid state or government photo ID: a driver's license, military or state ID, or a passport. Consulate ID cards, foreign ID other than a passport, and non-government ID are not accepted. Children under 16 with a parent or guardian are exempt from showing ID. Click here to read the source: VIX 5267.09, Visiting Regulations, Victorville complex (March 1, 2022) ↗
- Screening
- Everyone must walk through the metal detector without setting it off, so avoid clothes with metal. Visitors and their things may be searched, and visitors may be screened with electronic drug detection devices. Refuse a search and you do not get in. Visiting areas are on video. Click here to read the source: VIX 5267.09, Visiting Regulations, Victorville complex (March 1, 2022) ↗
- Money for vending machines
- Up to $20 in coins in a clear bag, says the visiting rules. The handbook says no more than $20.00 in $1 bills and coins. Only visitors use the machines. They may not accept money from you. Only food you buy from the machines can go to them. They may not share food or drinks with you. Click here to read the source: VIX 5267.09, Visiting Regulations, Victorville complex (March 1, 2022) ↗

How to get on the visiting list
- They send their Unit Team the names of people they want on their visiting list. The rules do not name the form. (The BOP's national visitor form is BP-A0629; not confirmed in the Victorville papers.)
- Everyone, including immediate family, is checked. The Unit Manager approves or denies each visitor. A questionable application (a discrepancy or a criminal-record hit) can be denied. The Warden can approve exceptions.
- If you are denied, the Unit Manager tells your loved one, and they tell you. Do not drive until you are approved.
- The list holds no more than 20 visitors. They can ask for a change at any time by sending an Inmate Request to Staff during Unit Team open house hours.
- Visits are ordinarily for people they knew before prison. A prior criminal conviction does not automatically bar you. Staff look at your relationship and how recent and serious it was.

JOHN ANTHONY SMITH-JONES Reg. No. 12345-678 FCI Victorville Medium I P.O. Box 3725 Adelanto, CA 92301
The handbook gives the Medium I inmate mail address as P.O. Box 3725, Adelanto, CA 92301, and says to put their committed name, register number and "FCI I" in the address. Books and magazines: at a medium security prison, books and magazines must come straight from a publisher, book club or bookstore (Amazon, for example), never from home.
How to send money to an inmate here
Money never goes to Victorville Medium I. It goes to the BOP, and the BOP puts it on their account. There are 3 ways. Each one below shows you the actual form and exactly what to write in each box, already filled in with their name and number.
First, they must sign the power-of-attorney form (BP-A0407) when they arrive. Until they do, MoneyGram and Western Union money cannot post. Click here to read the source: Program Statement 4500.13, Trust Fund/Deposit Fund Manual (May 7, 2026) ↗
1. Postal money order Our pick
"Postal" means the U.S. Post Office. A postal money order is one you buy at the counter of a U.S. Post Office, from the United States Postal Service. Money orders sold at Walmart, a grocery store, a bank, Western Union, MoneyGram or a check-cashing store are not postal money orders.
Why it matters: a postal money order has no hold. Once the BOP's lockbox in Des Moines gets it, it goes on their account. Every other money order and every personal or company check is put on a 15-day hold first, and the 15 days only start when the lockbox receives the envelope. Add the days it spends in the mail, and it can be close to three weeks before they can spend it.Click here to read the source: BOP, Sending money by U.S. mail ↗ Click here to read the source: FCC Victorville Inmate Handbook (updated September 2021) ↗ Foreign money orders and checks are held 45 days. The postal money order is also the cheapest way.
The Post Office's own steps

Unconfirmed: some stores have the blue Quick Collect form, some a "Pay a Bill" section, and some a phone to an agent.
Doing it online (Send2Corrections), screen by screen
You need a photo ID to set up the account: your name must match your ID exactly.
- Go to send2corrections.com or the Send2Corrections app. Log in or register.
- "Who are you sending to?" Choose the facility Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP DC).
- Receiver first name, middle name (optional), last name: exactly as the BOP has it.
- Commissary number: type only the 8 digits,
12345678. No dash, no name. The site adds the last name itself and shows the full account number in a grey box you cannot type in. - Ignore the pop-up that says "BOP number will not work." That text shows for every prison. The register number is what works.
- Amount: $1 to $300. Pay by card, or choose "Pay Cash (in-store)" and pay at a Western Union counter within 12 hours, or it cancels.
Hyphenated last name? The site drops the hyphen: Smith-Jones becomes 12345678SMITHJONES.
Money sent to the wrong person is not returned by Western Union. Western Union payments cannot be changed after they are sent.
Commissary: what they can spend
The handbook (September 2021) says the national limit is $360.00 a month, $90.00 a week, re-validated once a month. Their re-validation date is the 5th digit of their register number times 3, plus 1. Stamps, nicotine patches and over-the-counter medicine are not counted. National BOP policy (PS 4500.13, May 7, 2026) raised the limit to $460 a month, plus $50 more in November and December. The handbook has not caught up.
